About
British Awareness Independent Publicity
British
Awareness Independent Publicity was formed
to allow us a more hands
on approach
to the British bands we support.
It seemed a natural progression, as the magazine was
discovering new and exciting bands around every corner. These bands
were inspiring, and it was obvious Australia
was to miss
out on their
first steps if someone didn't lend a hand. With no money, and no idea of how to get a band on radio, TV, or in the press,
fears were put away, and British
Awareness Independent Publicity was created, and in such a short space, has come a very long way.
The
Dandys,
were to be intoduced to British Awareness in July 1998, and the excitement they created, and still create, made
it hard for the team to conduct
an interview and leave it there. The band's manager, Mal Spence, was to write in passing
on a With Compliments slip, "No plans to release album in
Oz. You could always hassle, hound Polydor Australia.
Start a campaign!!". Nicci, full of determination, decided this was a great idea, and many a day you would
see her and Lauren working tirelessly on The Dandys, petitions, flyers, packages to stations, TV. It
was something to really live and work for. 18 Community Stations playing the single 'English Country Garden', Rage playing the same
single, with that adorable clip, for 5 weeks, and interest from music fans of all styles, nation wide. A beautiful triumph and the start of beautiful
friendships.
Then
came another amazing chance from London, and
the Management company behind The Bluetones, the marvellous Jam X, and Neil Burrow. The band was Mover, and you would certainly know who they
are by now. With an incredible
fan base already
in place, just look at the bodies shaking to 'Move
Over' at the
indie clubs, massive
support from
radio, interviews, press getting in on the hype, and the most overwhelming exposure for months, and still growing, on Rage TV, with both 'Move Over', and 'Tricolore', Mover can do no wrong in the eyes of the Australian public. And whilst Mover have the total support of British Awareness, in particular Lauren who was resposible for forcing the nation to not let this one slip by,
they know that Australia is not the last place
to tour, in fact it is one of the first.
Now,
band after band are picking
up on the
passion we have to put in to
the music we like. Band after band
are realising that Australia is quite a great country, and one that all of them want to tour very much. Band after
band love
hearing stories
about people in Australia dancing to their tunes. Band after band are discovering the amazing
Australian market for the first time. And band after band are going to flood our shores.
Get ready for the next British Invasion!! An invasion of passion,
love, true and honest music, and talent of mammoth preportions. Music that everyone can relate to, and music that rings true, that isn't interested in fashion, but music that tells it like it is. This will happen. All it needs is fans to stand up
and help out, even if it is just calling
your favourite bands' name to the hill top. Be passionate, get
involved,
and then you can be safe
in the knowledge
that you have done your
bit for music.
The
bands that British Awareness support,
all have one thing in common. They want their messages shared all over the world. British Awareness Independent Publicity is here
to make sure that at least in Australia, those messages are honest, and exactly what the music is about. We represent the bands with complete,
undivided
devotion,
and this makes everything we do that bit better. We are not paid, this is not a 'proper' job, and
anyone can
do it if they
love something enough. Being Australian people, in love
with British music, and seeing our favourite bands every 5 years if lucky, the team wanted to change all of that. Bring British music to the people. This we are doing sucessfully, with suggestions of Australian tours for nearly every band on our roster,
things are looking
very good
for British music fans in Australia, and a time for everyone else to catch on to the global
trend. Finally,
Australia wont be the last to know!!
